The 1999 Season on paper looked like another average season. A finish of 6-4 was certainly better than any of the sub .500 records from years past... but this one was different. Optimism reigned as a 0-0 tie finished up The Queen City Jamboree against 5A foe Clarksville Northeast. Even after a blowout loss in Week 1 to Page, they did not allow that to shape the season. In fact, The fired up Cats responded the next week with a shut out of their own against York Institute.

Of the 4 losses the team had on the the season? Those teams were a combined 53-10, with all teams in the playoffs, one First round exit, one Second Round exit, one Semi Finalist and one Finalist that had a two time Mr. Football candidate on the team. Coming out of this Region was a fight and a 4-3 Region record at seasons end kept The Cats on the prowl. A trip to Chattanooga for Round 1 of The Playoffs ended the season, after a hard fought battle vs. Sequoyah (who eventually lost to Portland (the Finalist).

In 1999, the tide began to turn for The Bobcats. Former Bobcat Jason Fryer put it best saying that “We probably overachieved in the toughest Region in 3A” and that the “1999 team left everything on the field”.

The biggest achievement of the season, may have been this night. On October 8th, 1999 The Bobcats took their first ever victory over The Springfield Yellow Jackets. Going into the contest, The Cats had lost 8 straight to The Yellow Jackets, dating back to 1987. After a 5 year break, they had been paired up in the newly formed Region 4-3A for their first matchup since 1994. It was a big game with big implications on the line.

The Tennessean would report Derrick Adams rushing for 183 yards and 4 scores on just 19 carries. Stetson Dickerson would add another score on the night with Brandon Holder converting all PATs. The win would put The Bobcats at 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Region. Springfield on the other hand, would drop to 0-7 in the middle of one of their worst slumps in School History.
