Hi, I'm Mark from eReplacementParts.com. In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace the individual components that make up the collet assembly on a Porter Cable router. While it's common to replace an entire collet assembly, it is possible to replace each of the collet parts individually. So if the threads get stripped out on your collet nut or maybe the collet itself just won't hold the bits properly anymore, or cracks in half, or you've lost the retaining ring, you can replace each of these parts individually and usually save a little bit of money versus just buying the assembled collet.

Replacing the components of your collet assembly is easy to do, and I'm going to show you how. Collet parts, as well as many other parts could be found on our website. Let's get started.

The pieces of the collet are held together with a retaining ring. To disassemble the collet, I just simply remove that retaining ring, and then I can pull the nut away from the collet. With the collet disassembled, now I can replace any or all of these pieces as needed: the nut, the collet, which comes in various sizes, or the retaining ring itself.

To reassemble the collet assembly, I'll take the collet itself. You'll notice on the collet the ends are different. There're two machined surfaces. Those should be down. Those go into the router, and this thinner top portion is the part where the nut goes. I'll place the nut over the collet and secure it with the retaining ring.

That's all it takes to replace the collet components on a Porter Cable router. If you found this video helpful, be sure to give us a thumbs-up, and leave a comment.
