Описание к видео The Fifth Crusade A Journey Through History

The Fifth Crusade (1217–1221) was a military campaign aimed at recapturing Jerusalem by first conquering Egypt, seen as the key to controlling the Holy Land. The Crusaders, led by a combination of European nobles, initially targeted the Egyptian port city of Damietta. After successfully capturing the city, they attempted to march inland but were defeated by a Muslim counterattack. The Crusade ultimately ended in failure when the Crusaders were forced to surrender and sign a peace treaty with the Muslim forces. Despite the defeat, the Fifth Crusade highlighted the strategic importance of Egypt in the Crusader efforts to regain Jerusalem
