A resident of a Casselberry neighborhood quickly reported suspicious activity and helped deputies catch a vehicle burglar in the act!

At approximately 2 a.m. on December 5, the SCSO received a 911 call from a resident whose motion sensor porch light turned on, alerting the resident that there was movement in her driveway. When the resident checked outside, she reported seeing a subject jiggling door handles of vehicles. SCSO’s Alert helicopter happened to be in the area conducting proactive patrol and quickly found the subject in question. Alert maintained visual of the suspect continuing to jiggle door handles and eventually opening an unlocked vehicle door. Deputies quickly arrived on scene and the suspect and placed into custody.

Quinton Dominic Buchanan, 21, of Winter Park, was charged with three counts of burglary of a conveyance and nine counts of attempted burglary of a conveyance. Deputies also learned that Buchanan’s license was suspended so he was additionally charged with driving on a suspended license.

Thanks to this alert citizen and the quick responses from Alert and SCSO deputies, this burglar was stopped in his tracks! Remember, if you see something, say something and always practice the following tips:

• Always lock your parked vehicle.
• Never leave your vehicle unattended while it’s running.
• Remove valuables and items with personal information (wallet, cell phone, check book, electronics).
• Be aware of people looking into parked vehicles and report suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
• Don’t keep spare keys, valet keys, or your garage door opener inside your vehicle.
