A commercial bill is that which is arise out from the genuine business transactions. As if the goods are sold on credit ,the seller draw a bill which is known by the name of Bills Of Exchange, on the buyer for the amount of goods due. In this case, seller is drawer and buyer is drawee of the bill. A bill of exchange is a "self - liquidating "paper which have a short period range from 3 months to 6 months.

As it is a important source of short term finance.,but in India, it is not so popular ,because of two reasons
1. Indian big business is still depends on bank cash credits
2. They are unwilling to the payment mode of Commercial Bill.


According to section 5 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 ,-
"An instrument in writing containing an unconditional order, sighed by the maker, directing a certain person to pay a certain sum of money only to , or to the order of a certain person or to the bearer of the instrument".


Types of Commercial Bill---

1. Demand Bill and Usance Bill
2. Clean Bill and Documentary Bill
3. Inland Bill and Foreign Bill
4. Indigenous Bill
5. Accommodation Bill and Supply Bill
