The 27" iMac (mid-2020)

** See Note Below **
I recently upgraded my computer to the 27” iMac (Mid 2020) from a Mid-2015 model. This new iMac brings with it a step up in performance which will be much appreciated when editing video. This is widely considered to be the last of the Intel iMacs as Apple is converting to its own Apple Silicon processors.

This video briefly covers the unboxing then goes right into hookups, initial startup, and installation of additional RAM modules.

** UPDATE **
It seems there are choices to be made when mixing RAM modules of different capacities as I'm doing here. The original (bottom to top) 4-16-4-16 arrangement shown in this video is best for "Dual Channel" performance BUT takes a hit on speed. In another video, I went for a 16-16-4-4 arrangement which is best for speed BUT takes a hit on the Dual Channel side of things. Turns out, if a choice has to be made, it should favor Dual Channel. Of course simply removing the 4's and going with a 16-E-16-E setup would preserve Speed AND Dual Channel. It goes without saying that I could have simply populated all four slots with 16GB modules.

Video clips were captured with a GoPro Hero 8 Black and edited using Apple’s Final Cut Pro.
