Analog v. Digital (Blofeld, Prophet 08: 2 oscillators saw shape)

Описание к видео Analog v. Digital (Blofeld, Prophet 08: 2 oscillators saw shape)

This test uses two oscillators, one set an octave above the other, both using the saw waveform, maximum attack and with some release. Blofeld is without the filter 'drive curve.'

Test 1: quick notes
-p08 0:20
-blofeld 0:32

Test 2: slower notes

-p08 0:46
-blofeld 1:14

Test 3: LFO to filter
sorry messed this one up a little, 1st oscillator on the blofeld isn't routed through the filter, so you can hear it the whole time
-p08 1:58
-blofeld 2:53

Test 4: LFO to filter with moderate resonance
-p08 4:15
-blofeld 4:45

Test 5: varying LFO speed to filter with moderate resonance
-blofeld: 5:33
-p08: 6:13

Background: I recently got a Waldorf Blofeld, which is a crazy cross between analog modeling synth, wavetable synth and sampler and wanted to compare the analog modeling sounds to the Prophet '08, a DCO analog synth. I really like both synthesizers and this is the most fair and fundamental test I could think of since they differ in so many ways.

Sorry, I make music for the women in the front row; not purists, music police (those who critisize music from technical perspectives), gear spotters or people who generally don't know how to use their own ears / are deafened by the latest hype or 'rarity'. Since I don't use many of the p08's 'features,' this test tells me I could record with the p08 but leave it at home when it comes time for the next live performance. I thought there would be a bigger difference in the filter sound. Both are a tad boring to my ear but certainly better than average. The Waldorf sets itself apart in the LFO department (see test 5) which allows for serious sound mangling, if that's your thing.
Even though I would consider them both to be in the 'big league' I have had knob issues with both synthesizers (yes even though the p08 is a PE edition) so I can't say I would strongly recommend either. I can strongly recommend the roland alpha juno for polyphonic analog sounds...totally stable and smashing sound.
