Pithoragarh is a western Himalayan town with a Municipal Board in Pithoragarh district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is the largest city in the hills of Uttarakhand. The city is strategically important from defense point of view for India as the district shares international boundaries with China and Nepal.

Dharchula is a town and a nagar panchayat in Pithoragarh district in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India. Dharchula is a major trading centre for the trans-Himalayan trade routes since medieval times. Situated at an elevation of 915 m above sea level, Dharchula is surrounded by Himalayan Peaks. The snow clad Panchchuli peaks located on the west of Dharchula separate it from the Johar Valley. The hill station gets its name from ‘Dhar’ and ‘Chula’; Dhar means peak and chula means stove in Hindi. The name was given to Dharchula as it resembles a stove.. It is situated in a valley, on the banks of the Kali River.

Narayan Ashram is situated at an elevation of 2734 metres in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. This hermitage was established by Narayan Swami in 1936.
