In my early days of motherhood, I relied on momfluencers to learn everything, from the basics of setting up a diaper changing station to tips on how to get the baby to sleep through the night.
And wow, these momfluencers wowed me!
Not because they had it all together.
But because they treated social media like a personal diary. They showed up in the most relatable way — opening up about the daily struggles of taking care of a newborn, laughing, crying, dancing. They opened up so boldly that I felt what they felt.
With AI, perfection is everywhere, you can’t escape it. And with the over-saturation of perfection, content consumers are back to craving the raw, the real. I predict that in 2026, content consumers will crave the real and relatable style of content even more.
When I started creating content in 2017, I wanted to make perfect videos because that was trending at the time — drone shots, instagram filters, perfectly-timed fitness motivation music.
Since quarantine, relatable content has been taking over and I believe that with AI, it will become even more sought after.
We had a good run with perfection with the early Instagram models and influencers, but now the big word is relatable.
Here are few pointers I’ve picked up from some of my favorite momfluencers on what makes a video relatable that you can integrate into your brand:
— capture the big milestones (home building projects, pregnancy to birth, new job opportunities, opening up or shutting down a business)
— film simple clips on iPhones making it easy to film on the go. If you don’t already know how to, learn how to self film especially if you’re a business owner (don’t wait on your social media manager to capture all of the content).
— add music to evoke emotions
📝 ASSIGNMENT 📝
How do you plan to make your brand more relatable in 2026?
For example, let’s say you’re an aspiring business owner, film quick selfie videos documenting the biggest milestones for your business:
— hey guys, today I have a meeting with an investor
— today I landed my first client
— I’m setting up my home office, check out the progress
— this month we unfortunately made a net loss
— I’m having a tough time today because I had to lay off an employee
— we found a new supplier
— guess what, we’re hiring!!!
Think of it as Instagram story level editing i,e., minimum).
Now to make sure these videos gain the right visibility;
1. Keep the videos under 30 seconds when you’re just getting started, feature the best part of the video
2. Add text on screen explaining what’s going on
3. Add trending music that evokes the emotion you feel in the video
4. Crosspost on instagram Reels, TikToks, and YouTube Shorts
5. Add targeted keywords and tags in the captions and description sections
Did that help?
