I picked up this guitar several years ago in the used gear section at Guitar Center in Atlantic City, NJ. I hadn’t planned on buying a guitar that day, but the moment I saw this one, I changed my mind. For a price so low it almost felt like a joke, I couldn’t believe what I was getting.

For less than $700, I scored a USA handmade guitar with a neck-through construction, Sperzel locking tuners, a high-quality ebony fingerboard, hand-wired original Carvin pickups with coil switches for each pickup, and it even came with the original hard shell case. These days, you can barely find a solid budget guitar for that price.

Based on what I’ve found (tracking down Carvin models is tough, since so many were custom ordered, like this one with a reverse headstock), this guitar was built in the mid-90s. It’s an absolutely amazing instrument, with custom shop-level build quality, and after nearly 25 years, it’s still one of the best guitars I’ve ever come across.

I’m pretty sure this won’t be my last Carvin, there will definitely be more in my collection in the future.
