Acidic radicals can be identified easily through the scheme available .
We will do step by step tests according to scheme and identify the given
acidic radicals .
Salt + dil. H2SO4 ------------= Gas evolved ------------= Dilute Acid Group
If no gas is evolved then add conc. H2SO4
Salt + conc. H2SO4 ------------= Gas evolved ------------= Concentrated Acid Group
If no gas is evolved then it is special group
Salt + conc. H2SO4 ------------= No gas evolved ------------= Special Group
Take a small amount of salt in test tube and add dil H2SO4 into it .
We are doing tests for phosphate, So some common salts containing it are
sodium phosphate, potassium phosphate , calcium phosphate etc.
By adding dil. H2SO4 , No gas is evolved , so it indicates that
Acidic Radical doesnot belong to Dilute Acid Group .
Now Add conc H2SO4 to solid salt .
By adding conc. H2SO4 , no gas is evolved , so it indicates that
Acidic Radical doesnot belong to Concentrated Acid Group.
This means our Radical belongs to special group .
Add BaCl2 solution to identify the radical within Special group.
The precpitates formed will be insoluble in HCl ,
so it is Phosphate Radical .
WET TESTS
We will perform tests according to scheme to identify the acidic radicals.
In the scheme , O.S stands for Original Solution .
Tests will be performed by making solution of salt with distilled water .
So , Firstly we will make Original Solution of our given salt .
O.S + AgNO3 solution -------------= Yellow ppt formed
Ca3(PO4)2 + AgNO3 ----------------= Ca(NO3)2 + Ag3PO4
CONFIRMATORY TESTS FOR PHOSPHATE:
(i) O.S + conc. HNO3 + ammonium molbdate solution
-------------= Yellow ppt formed
(ii) O.S + FeCl3 solution --------------= Yellow ppt formed
O.S + conc. HNO3 + ammonium molbdate solution
-------------= Yellow ppt formed
Ca3 (PO4)2 + ( NH4 ) 2 MoO4 ---------------=
NaNO3 + NH4NO3 + H2O + ( NH4 )3PO4.12 MoO3. 6 H2O
( yellow ppt )
O.S + FeCl3 solution --------------= Yellow ppt formed
Ca3 (PO4)2 + FeCl3 -------------= CaCl2 + Fe PO4 ( yellow ppt )
