Saidi Balogun makes his grand return as a producer with 'Ewo' — a gripping traditional tale rooted in Yoruba culture and history.

Set against the backdrop of ancient customs, 'Ewo' follows the story of an Abobaku (a man destined to be buried with the king), and a rebellious queen who hides the king’s corpse to disrupt the tradition.

At the star-studded 'Ewo' Premiere, Saidi Balogun spoke about his passion for creating something truly special and culturally relevant. He revealed how the cast underwent dialect training to prepare for their roles, and why they deliberately included non-Yoruba-speaking actors, to show that film is a universal language meant to unite us all.

Director and writer Ekene Som Mekwunye shared that 'Ewo' was inspired by the real-life event of the Alake of Egbaland’s death in 2005, when his late wife reportedly fled with his corpse, a moment that sparked the story's creation.

'Ewo' hits cinemas nationwide from July 18th, 2025, and features a powerhouse cast:
Demola Adedoyin, Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Coker, Moyo Lawal, Jayeola Monje, Tina Mba, Saidi Balogun, Akin Lewis, Yinka Quadri, Ogogo Taiwo Hassan, Osereme Inegbenebor, and Luwamide Femi-Isedowo.
