Estrogen and Thyroid Binding Globulin (TBG)

Excess estrogen levels can cause the liver to produce higher levels of thyroid binding globulin (TBG) - essentially, with more TBG, thyroid hormones T4 and T3 will bind to the TBG and then we will have less free thyroid hormone floating around the body

In short, TBG can reduces amount of thyroid hormone available that can be utilized

Note:

TBG isn’t inherently bad, it helps escort T4 and T3 around the body

Additional (2-methoxyestradiol)

A study published in Molecular Cellular Endocrinology revealed 2- Methoxyestradiol, an endogenous estrogen metabolite “induced dramatic changes in (thyroid) cell morphology and decreased the viability of the cells, as well as disrupted the structural integrity of cultured thyroid follicles.”

They found that this process results in the release of thyroid antigens that may play a role in high incidence of thyroid autoantibodies and autoimmune thyroid disease in women

Essentially, estrogen dominance Prolonged exposure to 2-ME led to thyroid cell apoptosis and to increased release of the autoantigen thyroid peroxidase (TPO).
