We are continuing the Trans Euro Trail, the Devon TET from Harberton, where we left off last time.
It’s going to be muddier and slipperier than before. So we found some nice gnarly, gravelly, broken road tracks.
We continued to find more gravel trails, instead of grassy, muddy, rutty trails, which Helene has a problem with.
The engine crash bars on her Sinnis Terrain, has been wonderful at protecting her legs, when she has fallen.
Unfortunately today, as we stopped after coming up the A38, we noticed that the left hand side crash bar, had separated from two fixing points (welds snapped), dangling from the (3rd) only one left.
There was no problem until she hit a tree, as seen in episode 5, which bent them severely. We straightened them up, but got weaker and weaker the more we had to do it.
She averages about 6 falls per episode, and seems to favour her left. But in all 80 or so falls, she has only been hurt 4 times, and those four times, the bars would not of helped anyway.
So I’am a little concerned today, that she is missing some protection.
But, for a beginner learning to greenlane on a fairly heavy bike, the Sinnis Terrain crash bars have been amazing.
There was a downhill part of the trail that was reasonably steep, has lots of deep rock steps, enough to feel your footpegs hit the floor.
On the last hill, it would have been a great opportunity for her to experience a steep gravel/sand track. Upon her second fall, she hurt her legs. She was put off from trying again. This would not of happened if she had her crashbars intact.
There were some ups and downs. Some nice trails for Helene. But I’d like her to try that gravelly uphill again. She had a bit of a problem. Probably tried to overcorrect.
The front wheel is gonna do what it wants to do. You have to go with it, and that’s a learning process, to allow the wheel to do what it wants. When you start fighting it, apparently, you will have problems.
We will not go greenlaning again until we get the crash bars fixed.
On main roads you will see us as Yellow Woman and Orange Man. Yes, I have decided to buy a waterproof hi-viz jacket also. Wearing a waterproof layer over your motorbike jacket rather than underneath this time of year, makes sense to me. Plus you have the advantage of being more visible in poorer light conditions.
