Navajo Vocable for Piano No. 1 by Connor Chee

Inspired by Navajo songs and chants, Connor Chee (b. 1987) fluidly melds the worlds of classical piano and his Native American heritage into a soundscape that I find irresistibly beautiful. I made this recording during a practice session at home after returning from a backpacking trip in Montana. It’s informal and recorded from my phone, but every time I’m in nature, this piece and the rest from its collection are in my head as a soundtrack to the scenery around me. The music felt too beautiful to wait for a more formal opportunity to record.
