The Brandon Ingram Problem

Rumors of a Brandon Ingram trade have been circulating throughout the offseason, with the New Orleans Pelicans reluctant to offer him the maximum 4-year/$208 million contract that he's eligible for.

The New Orleans Pelicans likely want to keep Ingram around to try and build around him and Zion Williamson, but that's made infinitely more difficult if Brandon Ingram is on a contract of that magnitude.

With the NBA's new CBA, the Pelicans need to be careful about becoming a luxury tax team, and offering Brandon Ingram a contract that big could jeopardize any chance they have of being competitive going forward. With Dejounte Murray coming into the picture, the future looks complicated for Brandon Ingram and the Pelicans.
