In this episode, George interviews Vince d'Eon VE6LK who shares his "Fresh Approach to Go-Kit Design" methodology, and the rest of the team share their approach to go-kits and favourite gear for portable operating.
It's a bit of a behind-the-scenes look as we record the audio from the podcast, with a few goof ups and out-takes left in this video.
HWRB will periodically release videos when the subject matter lends itself to visuals - this is one such episode.

How George Organizes Stuff
Big ideas to consider…
Modularity vs “all-in-one”
Take just what you need vs prepare for every situation
Consider splitting stuff into things you NEED and things you can leave in the car
Keep radio specific stuff with each radio and don’t replicate common stuff
Two categories: “POTA” (You can carry it from the car to the park table) AND “SOTA” (Light enough to backpack it a few miles)
“POTA” Kits
(1) Radio: (IC-705) and radio specific stuff: mic, power cables, Bioenno 6Ah battery
(2) POTA gear: (always goes to the field) 12x6x5 - Everything you need for a deployment -
Works with all radios
PackTenna EFHW, coax, clipboard, pen, notepad, paddle, base,
earphones, antenna base stake, twist ties, mini antenna analyzer
(3) Mast (Fiberglass or carbon fiber)
(4) Office bag: (Optional - Need for data modes) Red Oxx Micromanager)
Laptop CF-20
DC power adapter, mouse, StreamDeck
(5) Power box: (For 100 Watt QRO deployments)
12 Ah Bioenno
40 Ah Bioenno
(6) Backup bag: (Leave in the car - just in case) More antennas (EFRW), antenna tuner,
20m band pass filter, tools, flash light, Laptop AC charger, USB cables, USB charger.
MULTI-PERSON EVENT BAG (If the POTA event has multiple operators with multiple radios)
Band pass filters, extra coax, adapters
“SOTA” Kit
Radio (KX2), 3Ah Bioenno battery, paddle, mic, notepad, PackTenna random wire antenna, RG-316 coax cable.
