Average Japanese people would pronounce burner as "baanaa" but when they try to focus on "R" sounds such as bURnER, they somehow end up saying "ou" and "aw", thus some of them end up saying that.
You actually see this in anime as well. They usually have a hard time saying "born" and "burn" when they try to sound fluent.
