Description: I've watched several videos of wildlife photographers trying out Olympus m4/3 kit and comparing it to their full size DSLRs and long lenses. I realised my compact setup of Nikon Z7, 500mm f/5.6E PF VR lens, and FTZ adapter, might be really interesting to compare against the Olympus kit. It turned out that Olympus UK thought so too, and they so sent me their flagship OM-D E-M1x body and M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4 IS PRO lens for a couple of weeks to play with!

Notes: I realised while editing this that I really should have been testing my Nikon kit against the smaller, but still very capable, Olympus OM-D EM1 mkII! I simply didn't know my way around the Olympus ecosystem when I wrote to them, and just suggested they could send me the same setup as Simon Wantling had been testing in his video... I also should have re-set the to defaults, as that would have fixed the incorrect max ISO. Anyway, I suspect the overall conclusions would have been pretty similar, but I would have found the camera more comfortable to use, and of course the Olympus kit would then have been lighter than my Nikon.

Disclaimer: There will be things I missed or did strangely due to being unfamiliar with the Olympus kit. You might watch this and completely disagree (please comment and discuss), but, as always, your mileage may vary! These are simply my own opinions and findings, based on the tests that I carried out over a couple of weeks while I had a loan of the kit. Also, I am not currently affiliated with Nikon, Olympus or Topaz Labs in any way.
