Radiculopathy is a condition that occurs when an intervertebral nerve root in one of the various regions of the spine is compressed or pinched.
There are three types of radiculopathy: cervical, thoracic, and lumbar. They occur due to compression of nerve roots in these respective portions of the spine.

A typical vertebra consists of a body and a vertebral arch, which has several processes for articular and muscular attachments. A vertical tunnel, which contains the spinal cord, is located behind the vertebral bodies. This tunnel is known as the spinal canal. The spinal canal protects the spinal cord from injury.

The spinal nerves branch off the spinal cord in pairs and travel through small openings between the vertebrae, called intervertebral foramina.
