Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the chief scientist in Pakistan's nuclear development programme, said on Friday (29/5) that "our programme is for peaceful purposes, but we don't hide the fact that we have got nuclear capability." Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Gohar Ayub Khan, said sanctions being imposed by the United States and Japan "might do much good for Pakistan" and the country might "emerge much stronger."

SOT Gohar Ayub Khan Pakistani Foreign Minister continues "We by the grace of God today are in position that we have nuclear weapons and we have missiles of long range. With these sanctions I think Pakistan will emerge much stronger, sanctions might do much good to Pakistan.";
SOT continues "The US, the UN and the World powers rather than now the manner in which they are clambering around they should get together and bring India and Pakistan to table to resolve Kashmir dispute. This is where a solution can be brought about. One fifth of the world population is in the sub continent and to have it unstable or with war cloud hovering around is not good for the region or for the world.";
SOT continues "I hope there is no nuclear conflict but the possibility cannot be ruled out, it would be a disaster.";

SOT Dr A.Q Khan, Scientist behind explosion in english "Now that we have responded positively to the Indian arms race that when they got nuclear we also got nuclear capability, even though our programme is for peaceful purposes, but we don't hide the fact that we have got nuclear capabiliy so if the country decides that there is a political desire, we can go nuclear in a very short space of time. This has kept India to it's senses and has not allowed it to take steps and indulge in any aggression. It has come a long way, definitely. It has come towards peace not war."
