How To Add Meta Title and Description In WordPress 2024 - (FAST & Easy!)
Learn how to add meta title and meta description in WordPress step by step. Adding a meta title and description in WordPress whether it's for your WordPress homepage, WordPress blog post, or WordPress page is a quick and easy process using the popular Yoast SEO plugin.

To start, I’m here in the WordPress dashboard. Hover over the Plugins tab in the left-side menu. Click Add New Plugin. In the search field, type in Yoast SEO. You’ll see the Yoast SEO plugin showing here. Click the Install Now button to install the plugin. Once it is done installing, click the activate button. Once it is done activating, you’ll be on the you’ve successfully installed Yoast SEO page.

Next, hover over the Posts or Pages tab in the left-side menu depending on where you want to add the meta description to. The steps are the same for both. I’ll click Posts. Next, find the post you want to add the meta title and description to and click edit underneath.

Scroll down to the bottom to where you see Yoast SEO. Where you see Preview as Mobile result and Dekstop result. You can change between the two to see a preview between devices. You’ll see the Meta Title and Description here.

Where you see Focus Keyword. This is where you can input the main keyword you want to rank for. This will help to guide you to optimize your page or post for SEO. For example, this post is about chicken noodle soup recipe, so I’ll put chicken noodle soup recipe as the focus keyword.

To add a meta title for this page, you’ll see SEO Title. This is where you can add the Meta Title. I’ll go ahead and click into SEO Title and remove what is there. You can then put the Meta Title you’d like. This post is about a Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe. I’ll type in a Meta Title I want to use. You’ll see the Meta Title is now showing. You’ll see the green showing. This means the length is good. If I add more words you’ll see it changes to red. This means you want to remove some words to get in to the green for SEO meta title best practices.

To add a meta description for this page, you’ll see Meta Description here. Enter the Meta Description that you’d like. When I start to add in a meta description you’ll see the orange here. You want to write your meta description to be in the green.

I’ll paste in a Meta Description I’ve written for this page. You’ll see it shows green. If I add some words, you’ll see it’s orange. In this case, you’d want to remove words till it’s in the green.

Where you see slug, this is the URL of the page or post. You can input the slug you want. This post is a chicken noodle soup recipe so I want to have the slug be chicken noodle soup recipe.

If you click SEO Analysis. It’ll give you SEO recommendations for your page or post to help you optimize it for SEO.

Once you are done adding your Meta Title and Description, click the save button to save your changes.
