A novel Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyzer

Описание к видео A novel Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyzer

Associate Professor Torsten Berning from AAU Energy at Aalborg University has invented a new design of a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer that runs at sub-ambient pressure.

Proton exchange membrane electrolyzers are one of the most promising technologies to create green hydrogen. However, current solutions require large amounts of precious metals, especially iridium (Ir), which is one of the rarest metals on earth. The new design also features a heat exchanger that allows for higher efficiency in hydrogen production.

Highlights of the new design:
Reduce the amount of iridium
Increase the efficiency
More compact, modular design
Broad applications from a few kilowatts to several megawatts
