This webinar offers advice for students and early career researchers on carrying out research projects, and ideas for lecturers about how best to support them. Our authors talk about choosing resources and documents, analysis, journaling, collaboration and creativity.

Aimee Grant, author of 'Doing Your Research Project with Documents', offers advice on planning, time management and reflexivity, as well as how to choose your data sources and analysis strategy. Qualitative research brings to mind interviews and focus groups with research participants, but there are many other resources. Barbara Bassot, author of 'Doing Qualitative Desk-Based Research', looks at the variety available and the benefits of desk-based study. Nicole Brown, author of 'Making the Most of Your Research Journal', offers insight into the opportunities journaling offers and talks about how to practically deal with a research journal for it to be a useful tool. Richard Phillips, co-author of 'Creative Writing for Social Research', talks about the co-production process, inviting us to explore new ways of writing. We showed a video from Narelle Lemon, co-author of 'Creative Research Methods in Education', unpacking the possibilities that creative methods can offer.

The event was chaired by Helen Kara, leading independent researcher, teacher and speaker, and author of numerous books including 'Researching in the Age of COVID-19'.
