General Robert E. Lee has taken command of Confederate forces in and around Richmond following Joseph E. Johnston's wounding at the Battle of Seven Pines, and has begun to reorganize his divisions into the newly-relabeled "Army of Northern Virginia." Lee begins to formulate a strategic plan to counterattack Major General George B. McClellan's massive Union Army of the Potomac sitting outside Richmond, which is preparing to launch a siege of the Southern capital. However, before Lee can finalize his plans for his bold counterattack against the Federals, he needs to gather more intelligence on the Union right flank north of the Chickahominy River, where Lee intends to strike. Turning to his jubilant and flashy Cavalry Brigade commander, Brigadier General J. E. B. Stuart, Lee requests that Stuart take his cavalry regiments on a reconnaissance-in-force mission towards the Army of the Potomac's right flank along the Chickahominy. However, as Stuart's horsemen conduct their long ride, which starts on June 12th, he pushes the extent of his orders and conducts a full ride around McClellan's army. Stuart begins launching small-scale cavalry raids against Union supply bases and picket posts, gathering more intelligence on the Union army's positions as he travels with his troopers, eventually reaching the outskirts of the main Federal supply base on the Peninsula, White House Landing. The supply base is a tempting target for the Confederate horsemen. Will Stuart be able to complete his "Ride Around McClellan"? Or will the Federals figure out what the flashy cavalier is up to and stop him in his tracks?
