I am excited for the future of Steam Deck and Minecraft. It's a pity I can't buy one in December. They aren't available in Australia :(

The Steam Deck is a portable gaming console announced on July 15th, 2021 by Valve, the creators of the popular Steam marketplace for games.

A few years back, Valve attempted a less portable version of this called the Steam Machine. That flopped. Valve's new Steam Deck is their answer to that earlier incarnation, and as a content creator I wanted to share my unique perspective on this -- particularly from the POV of Minecraft and whether Minecraft will work on the Steam Deck.

The Steam Deck will be capable of running Windows 10 and Windows 11. Valve is working on Windows 11 support for Steam Deck at the moment.

On a side note ... did you know you can actually stream from the Steam Deck? It should be 100% capable of doing so. Pretty crazy. This is less of a console, and more of a portable gaming machine. Steam Deck is a gaming laptop with a built-in controller, perhaps. And there are already controller mods for Minecraft Java Edition. I'm confident there will be Steam Deck controller mods available soon, too.
