Introduction
In recent years, assistive technologies have made significant strides in empowering individuals with disabilities, particularly those with speech and hearing impairments. One such innovation is the Smart Glove, a wearable electronic system designed to bridge the communication gap by translating hand gestures into readable text and audible speech. With the increasing demand for accessible communication tools, this project combines Arduino, flex sensors, an accelerometer, and Bluetooth connectivity to create a real-time gesture interpretation system.
The glove is embedded with three flex sensors, one on each of the index, middle, and ring fingers, to measure finger bends. An accelerometer detects hand orientation and motion. These inputs are processed by an Arduino UNO, which maps each gesture to a predefined word or phrase. The interpreted gesture is sent via Bluetooth to a mobile phone or PC, where it is displayed as text and converted into speech using a text-to-speech engine.
