Argentina has opened a British cultural centre in Buenos Aires to promote English language and culture.

The centre - modelled after one in Japan - will provide English language lessons, art expos as well as concerts and plays.

Organisers hope this will help strengthen cultural ties between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

The British Arts Centre - Argentina's country's first and only British cultural centre has opened its doors to the public.

The B-A-C - as it is called - was founded to promote English language and culture.

It is also a piece of home from home for Argentina's British community.

The centre was modelled after a similar one in Tokyo, Japan.

Organisers hope it will help strengthen cultural ties between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

The centre will run an English language school, a small art gallery, a cinema and a theatre.

Each week visitors will be able to enjoy a British film or play.

And a cybercafe will allow fans of the British to surf the Internet and get in touch with their friends from the other side of the Atlantic.
