Astor PN-C24J AM Car Radio Repair

All solid state from 1968 using mainly silicon transistors with 2 germanium transistors in the output stage.

A lot of repairs were needed! Many faulty, out of tolerance and unreliable components. The temperature and humidity extremes of being in a car accelerated the aging process on the components.

Needing to use a curve tracer to find faulty germanium transistors and having to use the LCR45 meter to check faulty polystyrene capacitors are highlights.

Note that both faulty capacitors were checked on a FET meter for leakage and found to be over 100 Meg ohms.

The LCR45 must measure the capacitor differently to give the correct reading. Does anyone know how?
