There is prominent preacher these days who is teaching falsely that the Church needs to "unhitch" itself from the Old Testament. If you unhitch yourself from the Old Testament you have unhitched yourself from God's Word. Make no mistake about it, if you dismiss the Old Testament, the New Testament makes no sense, nor does Jesus' death on the cross make any sense whatsoever. I would not trust any teacher that even gets close to suggesting that you should dismiss the Old Testament. Such a teacher is either ignorant of truth and should not be teaching or they are bearing false witness and should not be teaching.

This is a short clip from my sermon from Romans 1:1-7. In Romans 1:1b-4 the Apostle Paul said that he was, "set apart for the Gospel of God, (2) which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, (3) concerning His Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh (4) and declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord."

Notice that God the Father began testifying of His Son Jesus "through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures." That's the Old Testament...the Gospel, in the Old Testament. The New Testament is the full revelation of the good news concerning Jesus Christ, and the writers of the New Testament explain that very clearly. No Apostle dismissed the Old Testament, and quite the opposite they all appealed to the Old Testament to prove biblically that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
