This is the true story of Inez Jean Sanders, a five-year-old girl who disappeared in February 1980 from a roadside motel in Phoenix, Arizona, after her mother left her in the temporary care of an adult acquaintance while traveling out of state. When her mother returned ten days later, both the child and the caretaker were gone. For years, the case remained local and fragmented, while Inez lived under another identity within the California foster care system. In 1986, a photograph provided to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to her identification, reunification with her mother, and the arrest of the woman who abducted her.
