Communication is at the heart of participation.
Without access to information — whether it’s about a local community meeting, a healthcare service, or an approaching disaster — people with disabilities are excluded from decisions and opportunities that affect their lives.

Barriers take many forms:
🧏‍♀️ a lack of sign language interpreters,
📄 official information not provided in accessible formats,
🚨 or emergency warnings that don’t reach people in ways they can understand or act on.

Access means ensuring that everyone can receive, understand, and use the information they need — in the right format, at the right time. It’s about opening pathways for people with disabilities to participate fully in their communities and to shape their own futures.

As climate change increases the frequency and severity of disasters, inclusive communication becomes even more critical.
In Papua New Guinea, Nelsie shares how clear information helped her community prepare.
In Indonesia, Yani and Yomi describe the support and access that enabled them to avoid disaster and rebuild with resilience.
