SARDINE RUN - 1 - The Greatest Shoal on Earth with Peter Lamberti

The Southern African Sardine run has been described by wild-life film producer Peter Lamberti as "The Greatest Shoal on Earth" and rightly so.

The Sardine Run is an event whereby millions of Sardines swim along the South Coast of Africa, pursued by thousands of dolphins, countless sharks and gannets, all competing for this moving buffet. Inadvertently, the dolphins and sharks start working together, herding the shoals close to the surface, making it easier for the gannets to dive-in and take their share. Bait balls are formed and the predators greedily devour the little fish. All this action is expertly captured by Peter Lamberti and his crew from the air using a micro-light, and sensational underwater footage using the latest technology and development in underwater cameras. I have never seen a camera being towed underwater by a boat and I really enjoyed the images the camera produced - hundreds of dolphins swimming directly for the camera with an occasional shark. Awesome!
