I took the BMW X3M OFF-ROAD!! Kind of! BMW advertise the X3M with "off-road capabilities, so i put that and this BMW to the test!
Off-roading might be slightly over exaggerating but the road shown can definitely be classed as green laning or beginner off-roading. The off-road was really bumpy throughout, the surface was just solid rocks sticking up everywhere, this itself is a challenge for an £80k fast BMW! The x3m competition with its very stiff suspension and 21 inch wheel handled these section with no issues, no lights on the dash no damage no popped tyres! The X3M ride quality however was far from an everyday off-road vehicle and i was thrown about the place quite a bit!!
Wading through relatively deep water was next on the agenda on this off-road for the BMW. The water wasn't deep enough to class it as wading, but as far as puddles go it was plenty deep enough, and a lower sports car with less ground clearance genuinely wouldn't want to go in later that deep, again, thumbs up for the x3m and its off-road capabilities thus far!
The real off-roading section of the road so a steep (although it didn't look it) wet, loose, muddy hill! No car i have every owen would ever have got up that hill, the clearance would be an issue and then obviously the incline would be a bigger issue! the X3M competition absolutely smashed it out the park in my eyes. A fast fast fast BMW that can go off-roading and climb hills like it did was outstanding. On the hill the x3m slipped and power was seen to be sent to all different whiles via the clever differential and it just eased over the muddy hill! almost killing my gopro in the process. What a clip that is by the way! totally on accident ahah!
More off-roading for the bmw came in the way of potholes, puddles, and more cobbles than you've ever seen before, again all handled perfectly by the x3m competition!!
To say im impressed with the bmw x3m off-roading capabilities is an understatement! ive never owned a vehicle that can go up hills like that, that has a clever differential like that, that can wade through deep water and have enough ground clearance to descend hills! Its simply amazing! and then when back on the road the x3m will launch you from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds its an amazing great great the bmw it really is!! I enjoyed my first experience of off-roading in the bmw x3m and would 100% do it again. I wouldn't want to push it much further and damage the car, but i know the bmw is capable of more still, its brilliant.
