Описание к видео Niv Perelsztejn: A Hundred Years of (German?) Jewish Studies

The year 2024 marks the one hundred years anniversary of the Institute for Judaic Studies, inaugurated on December 22nd, 1924, with the proclamation that it is the first seed of a humanities faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Niv Perelsztejn’s Lecture aims to present a historical-philosophical analysis of the establishment of the institute in the contest of German-Jewish academism and the relocation of part of it to Jerusalem after World War I. He aims to present the interrelationship between the ideological background of Zionist nation-building, which indeed played a leading role in imagining and later constructing the institute, and the inter-institutional background of the institute’s academic predecessors in Europe and in Germany in particular.
