Introduced in 1986 as part of the Ayrshire Coast Line electrification programme the Class 318 EMUs are now considered as the heritage Electric Multiple Units in the fleet of ScotRail given the previously operated Class 314 units are now all withdrawn. Fast forward to 2024 and here we have Unit No. 318251 serving the Argyle Line which runs between Dalmuir and Lanark via Glasgow City Centre. They can also be found on other services such as the Whifflet Line, Inverclyde, Cathcart Circle, Paisley Canal & North Clyde Line.

The Class 318 EMU is a fleet of 21 3 car units operated by ScotRail they are owned by Eversholt Rail and maintained at Shields Road Depot in Glasgow. Between 2021 and 2023 they was refurbished at Brodie Engineering in Kilmarnock.
