Renault Scenic Megane Clio Key Card Fob Transponder error fix

If you're getting a "card not recognized", "card not found", "kaart niet herkend" , "carte non reconnue" or similar error on your circa 2002 to 2008 Renault Megane, Scenic or similar, probably the transponder antenna has come loose from the main printed circuit board (PCB). You can sometimes get the car to start by bending the card while pressing the start button, but after a while even that won't work anymore.

Since these enclosures are welded shut, they are hard to open and you're probably not able to reuse the plastic box. This video shows how to make a small 'hatch' so you can access the solder joints on the PCB. After soldering, the transponder works again and you're able to start the car normally. This fix is easy and only requires a hobby knife, and a soldering iron and solder to repair.

A new key is another way to fix this issue, but typically start at several hundered Euro's.
