PERU: SUZY DIAZ THE PERUVIAN CICCOLINA ,NEW POLITICAL ROLE

Susy Diaz, the Peruvian Chicholina, today (Friday) was accredited for the Congressional seat she won in recent Peruvian elections.

For her new job, she had a new image - playing down her sensational past.

Susy Diaz has changed her ways.

Now that she is officially part of the political scene, she plans to use her brain to get her way.

The Peruvian Chicholina won a Senate seat in recent elections.

Diaz, one of Peru's most popular vedettes, ran on the Independent Agrarian Movement (M-I-A) and won 10, 280 votes.

She had one of the most memorable campaign trademark - she would lift her skirts and show the number 13 painted on her left buttock.

The number 13 is a M-I-A slogan.

"Yes, I was the only M-I-A candidate that won. I received 10,280 votes. Of the 120 Congressional seat, I obtained the 68th seat."

Diaz has been criticized for showing her posterior and handing out condoms during her campaign by Lima Archbishop Cardinal Vargas Alzamora.

Diaz, traveling in her "Chuchimobile", became a very popular figure during the campaign.
SOUNDBITE:

"I am looking into various projects. I want to clear something up. I was criticized a lot for handing out condoms during my campaign. I did this motivated by the M-O-L (a Lima homosexual movement) apropos because there are many people afflicted by AIDS. For example, the members of M-O-L asked me to give out condoms because every condom that I hand out, I am really handing out life. So, during the campaign I handed out thousands of lives."

Susy Diaz says now that she is in the public light as a political figure, she will never do what she did during the campaign.

"No, I don't think I will do it again. I think it is enough. I did it during the political campaign, but not anymore. Now I am going to show my brain, my intelligence. I used some of my beauty to garnish support from the people. And see, I got more than 10 thousand votes. But now I am using my brain."
