Albrecht Durer's masterpiece Melencolia I is a puzzle that has defied interpretation for over 500 years. Generations of scholars and art-lovers have poured over every detail in the engraving hoping to unlock its secrets, but in vain. They all lacked the one thing needed - the key. So what is the key, and where may it be found? The key is the numerical language of gematria and it was supplied to us by Durer's compatriot Henry Cornelius Agrippa in his 'Three Books of Occult Philosopy'.
