Clam Digging, ID & Taste Test: Butter Clams vs. Native Pacific Littleneck Clams vs. Manila Clams

How do you tell the difference between clams and which clam is the tastiest? We went clam digging for manila clams, butter clams, and native Pacific littleneck clams all on the same beach in Puget Sound, Washington.

I’ll show you 1) how to dig butter clams, manila clams, and littleneck clams, 2) where to find clams on the beach, and 3) how to identify similar looking clams and ways to differentiate between clam species. Then we’ll steam the clams and taste them in all their clammy glory.
