The Beaumont Heritage Society is set to celebrate the 180th anniversary of the John Jay French Museum on June 14. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature various activities aimed at bringing history to life.

Karli Stansbury, speaking about the event, said, "The fact that it's lasted in our lifetime, right, is incredible." She added that the celebration will include demonstrations by the Blacksmith Association of Beaumont, horse displays by Stable Spirits, and farm animals from Texas Agrilife Extension. Additionally, the Big Thicket Outlaws will perform reenactments at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

A local historian, who is also a descendant of the French family, will give talks at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. "We want to be that educational resource for our community," said Stansbury, emphasizing the museum's role in preserving history.

The event aims to raise funds to maintain the historic home, with a $5 admission fee contributing directly to its upkeep. "Every penny of that goes directly back into caring for the home," Stansbury noted, highlighting the challenges of preserving such a historic site.

The museum, described as a "time capsule," has undergone careful restoration to maintain its original appearance. "We can't do anything to alter the appearance of the home or it would lose its historic status," Stansbury explained.

The celebration promises to be an engaging experience for attendees, with historical reenactments and performances. "I always say that I have the best job in the world," Stansbury said, expressing her enthusiasm for sharing the museum's history with the public.
