The surroundings of the central black hole of M87 has been observed. The Event Horizon Telescope, an array of worldwide telescopes, aimed at and observed the M87 central black hole in radio wavelengths. After combining and processing the data from all over the globe, the real image is finally ready.

[Image] This is the first real image of a black hole. Here, the black hole is in the center and the surrounding glowing region is the accretion disk.

M87 is a supergiant elliptical galaxy in the constellation of Virgo. It has a remarkable 1,500-parsec long energetic jet from its galactic nuclei. It lies at a distance of 55 million ly from earth. The black hole has a mass of 6.5 billion suns.

Superhot games and matter swirl around the black hole in the accretion disk, which eventually fall inwards. This results in the emission of energetic electromagnetic radiations.

Due to extreme warping of spacetime, the light from behind bends and forms an image above the black hole. Also, one side appears darker due to a phenomenon known as relativistic beaming. Sagittarius A* has also been observed.
