2014-2018 BMW X5/X6 Transfer Case Fluid Change DIY

How to change the transfer case on your BMW X5/X6
This procedure is a simple drain and refill. The biggest challenge is getting the tools to loosen the fill/drain plug.

THIS IS AN EASY JOB, BUT IF YOU FEEL THIS IS BEYOND YOUR SKILL LEVEL PLEASE VISIT AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER!

IF you can change oil on the X5/X6 you can replace transfer case fluid.
This is similar to changing gear oil on a manual transmission car

Start by warming the fluid. Drive the car around for a little while
I put the car on 4 ramps. Set parking brake

Use jack stands

Use the angled 14mm wrench and 14mm adapter

You’ll need 1L of fluid either OEM or OEM Spec fluid

Transferase will take approximately 500ml of fluid

I prefer this extraction tool. It worked perfectly to extract and refill the transfer case

I used the Foxwell NT530 to reset the VTG adaptations
