We are stoked that we finally painted half of this Toyota Tundra truck. It's been a long process and the first project we've worked on. We're converting our old 2008 Tundra shop truck to the 2020 front end with Baja style fenders & bed. The process is not too difficult but we were very cautious in our approach. We were unsure of what modifications we had to make for the 2020 front-end conversion as well as how well the Baja fenders would fit our truck. We're SORRY we couldn't film the clear-coat process but we'll figure something out when we paint the truck bed.

WHAT'S NEXT?!
We will be cutting our old bed out and test fitting our Baja-style bed. Similar to this video we will be prepping the bed and paint it. We have to cut out and attach the new bed. This time we'll show you a bit more of our painting process.

TOOLS NEEDED:
In this video, we used a socket wrench and a power drill for the fitting. For our prepping, we used sanding blocks and 3M wet sanding paper. For, our painting we use the Lesonal paint system by Akzonobel and SATA spray guns.

PROCESS:
We spent quite a bit of time test-fitting our parts on this truck. Not only did we have to make sure the 2020 front-end Tundra conversion would work, but we also had to test fit the Baja truck fenders. We got our Baja style kit from Advanced Fiberglass Concepts, and we are extremely happy with our purchase. They provide a high-quality fiberglass product. We worked with many fiberglass parts in the past and these are thick, sturdy, and were molded pretty well. But, anytime you are working with fiberglass or any conversion, you will have to do some time of modifications. It's important to identify those modifications and get them sorted before you paint any part. Once you spend hours lay down that that expensive paint, make sure it's 100% good to go! We did have issues with our passenger-side fender not fitting correctly, but at the end of the day, we can live with it. We did our best to adjust brackets and even cut part of our oil cooler off! Sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't. The gaps between the grille and passenger fender are not what we want them to be, but we feel the truck still looks good. We did a lot of prepping off-camera, otherwise, this video would have been several hours long. Pay attention to the prepping stage, it will make or break you in that paint booth. Make sure everything is done properly or your painter follows the best practices. You don't want your pretty paint to be peeling in 3 weeks or 3 months. Sadly, we did not film our clear-coat process because the overspray was coating our camera. I think we figured out a couple ways we can film the clearcoat spraying when we paint our truck bed.
