Talks on Sri Ramana Maharshi: Narrated by David Godman - Natesa Iyer

In the published tales of ancient Gurus and Masters, it is sometimes mentioned that the best devotees are discovered in obscure, unlikely places such as the kitchen or cowshed. Papaji sometimes told the story of a saint in Maharashtra whose best devotee spent his time shovelling cow dung in the ashram's cowshed. Hui Neng, the Zen Patriarch, had a lowly job in the monastery kitchen before he demonstrated his spiritual worth to his teacher and his community.

Here is a story of Natesa Iyer, one of the lesser-known devotees of Ramana Maharshi, a man who ground down his ego by serving his master in the ashram kitchen and who eventually reached a point where he felt that only his Guru's presence remained.
