You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet Cover

This week's "Remake of a Classic" is Bachman Turner Overdrive's timeless "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet", from 1974. Recording the music and making the video was an emotional roller coaster for me (in fact, I only did one take of the vocal...it was just too hard). As many of my friends and family know, BTO was my brother Mark's favorite band, and this was one of his favorite tunes. He would have loved this.

On the surface this seems pretty straight forward (musically, that is)...as there's absolutely nothing complex about any of the parts. That said, it's actually a tough tune to capture the feel of, and it took me a while to put my finger on it. The trick, I finally figured out, lies within the guitar solos. While they can be played by most first year guitar students, the simplicity of the melodies is exactly what the song needed...anything more would have blown it. You do, however, have to replicate the effects in order for it to sound right. This is where the genius of Randy Bachman as a producer comes in. I'm not sure how he did it, but I used delay, reverb and a phaser. It's not perfect, but I think it's close.

So, this is for Mark....love and miss you more every day.
