"Cadiz" refers to the Spanish city of Cadiz or its province, it was originally conceived as a "saeta" (Spanish religious songs of the venerative type), but later, not having the same character, was referred to simply as a song.

The rhythm of the accompaniment with upbeat triplets reveals its derivation from the bolero, not accidentally the most common dance in the city and province of Cadiz.
