The most popular traditional folk dances in Crete are Syrtos (also known as Chaniotis), Pentozalis, Maleviziotis, Siganos, and Sousta. Today, you’ll see these performed all over the island. Many of these dances were influenced by ancient Minoan traditions, especially the old pyrrhic dance. Crete’s rich history has seen a variety of distinct dance styles, often depending on the region or the specific events and traditions that inspired them.
