This is some really amazing footage of the "it's a small world" Very Merry Holidays overlay at Tokyo Disneyland from 2003, the first year of the overlay. This footage is really incredible, partially because it's one of three videos I've seen from the initial (2003-04) season. Much like the original Disneyland, Tokyo went all out for the Holiday overlay, adding layers upon layers of new details that perhaps even more so than California blended in really well with the also beautiful original surroundings. Because the Florida/Tokyo versions are a little shorter than the California, a few scenes such as the Welcome and Transition rooms had to be omitted, and of course the layout and visuals are also somewhat different. Despite that, they still managed to incorporate many similar decorations, and some are also built a little differently. This overlay (RIP 2003-2015, more on that later), used most of the same audio tracks as California, however there were also a few new ones that were only ever used in this overlay. I may be forgetting a few but I've tried to list as many as I could identify below. In the loading area, the regular area music (still played outside) has been very appropriately replaced with the transition audio from CA. In Europe, the North Pole Santa dialogue is different, the German band seems to be a different track, and they also seem to have a new Italian band instrumentals which was also never used in California (not sure about Paris at the moment). In Asia, the one major difference is that there are new Japanese Jingle Bells vocals which unfortunately were never implemented in California (since 1997 California Holiday has used the English vocals in Asia). I couldn't hear any changes in Africa or Latin America, besides the different layout and maybe some different volumes, except for the obvious Rainforest being at the end of Latin America instead of South Pacific. Most of the South Pacific audio is also similar, but since the Mermaids are not present neither is their vocals, and instead they have the regular Jingle Bells English vocals. In addition, you can hear the old transition room audio from CA near the end of South Pacific. Lastly, in the Finale, the Deck the Halls vocals are also in Japanese instead of English. If there are any I'm missing I'd love to know in the comments. Unfortunately this overlay hasn't ran since 2015, which is definitely a major shame and although relatively minor compared to some of the recent decisions at the US parks, is still horrible and easily one of the worst decisions ever made for the Tokyo parks. Also, at the beginning I included a bonus 2003 Japanese TV ad for the overlay. I hope you enjoy this rare video and Happy New Year!
