If you are not able to open certain excel files with an error message while opening "This file is corrupt and cannot be opened", you can fix it by changing the "protected view" settings in Excel
Click on File, Options, Trust Center, Trust Center Settings, Protected View. Uncheck all items there! Close Excel and open it again and open your folder! It should be working fine now!
